Belhar woman gives birth on a roof

In the early hours of this morning (Tuesday), a Belhar woman assisted by the Belhar firefighters gave birth to her baby on a roof.

IOL reported that MayCo member for safety and security, JP Smith, said that the crew from Belhar Fire Station received a call before 05:00. They found the woman in labour on the roof when they arrived.

The woman challenged fate and climbed the roof to get out of the informal structure she lives in. It seems that crossing the roof is the only exit route out of the yard of the residence, reported the VOC.

The woman gave birth to a baby boy.

“Staff clamped and cut the baby’s umbilical cord, and monitored his vitals until the rescue vehicle arrived from Epping Fire Station,” said Smith.

The mother and son were transported to hospital soon after.

This is not the first time that this fire crew had to assist a baby boy. VK News reported early in October about their heroic efforts to save the life of a two-week-old baby boy.
