The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) reported that a 69-year-old man drowned at Strand Beach on the early evening of Monday. The man’s body was recovered by bystanders.
NSRI Gordons Bay, the South African Police Services, GB Med Security ambulance services and Emergency Services were notified about the man at 18:36 and later declared the man dead after arriving on the scene.
“The man had gone for a swim near to The Pipe, on the South Western side of Strand Beach. It appears that later he was spotted face down in the surf by bystanders who recovered the man from the surf,” the NSRI reports.
The Western Cape Government Health Forensic Pathology Services then took the body into their custody.
Police’s Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed that a death inquest case is under investigation as the circumstances around the incident is being investigated.
