Friday morning after completing her night shift, whilst waiting for an Uber the 31-year-old woman was robbed, shot and killed.

The victim, identified as Lauren Dryden, was waiting for her Uber outside her workplace in Elsies River when the incident occurred, reports News24. The publication reports that the victim leaves behind two young children and a fiancé.

A murder case was registered for investigation

Voice of the Cape News spoke to Captain F C van Wyk who confirmed the murder. He said, “Crime scene experts are currently on a crime scene in Kinghall Avenue, Epping 2, Elsies River, combing the scene for clues, after a 31-year-old woman was shot and fatally wounded this morning at about 06:09. A murder case was registered for investigation. Circumstances surrounding this fatal shooting incident are under investigation.”

Early on Friday, a distraught Angus Mckenzie, Bonteheuwel ward councillor wrote on his FB page: “One of the saddest things about Lauren Dryden murder in Epping this morning outside her work is that yesterday I met her. She came and registered for her the City of Cape Town and German Funding Corporation Covid Relief fund for her 2 little children. This morning that funding was approved. Sadly, she won’t be able to spend that money on her children. I will however ensure that the funding relief makes it’s way to her children . . .”

Mckenzie also took to Facebook last night to post that a suspect has been arrested in connection with Lauren’s murder. He thanked the Bonteheuwel community for their amazing participation.
