15-year-old boy from Macassar shot during alleged argument with security guard

On Monday morning a 15-year-old boy was shot at a petrol station in Macassar during an alleged argument with a security guard. 

Security company SBV Services confirmed this incident and that one of their custodians were involved.

“We are deeply saddened to hear that a young person has lost his life. As a company, we wish to extend our sincere condolences to his family and to his loved ones. Our employee is currently in police custody. While we are not able to release any further information at this point in time, we are working with the authorities to investigate the incident,” Group CEO of SBV Services South Africa, Mark Barrett, says

Barrett says it is expected of employees to treat others with respect and dignity and has expressed shock over what transpired. They say that they will not treat the matter lightly and will cooperate fully with the police’s investigation.

Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says that police were on the scene yesterday morning where the boy was shot and fatally wounded. Police report that a 34-year-old man was arrested.

The man will be expected to appear before the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 17 February on a charge of murder.
