Police are investigating the rapes of two young girls aged 1 and 5, who were allegedly raped by a 14-year-old boy in Pietermaritzburg.
According to the police, a rape case was opened at the Plessislaer Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit.
Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said on Wednesday, “It is alleged that two siblings aged one and five were raped by a 14-year-old boy at Imbali location,”.
The teen boy was initially placed in the care of a family member while a social worker assesses him. The police did not make an immediate arrest, quoting different procedures for a minor.
According to Col. Mbele, the 14-year-old accused was processed under rape charges and social workers were assigned to his case. Police then awaited a decision from the courts regarding his arrest.
Mbele later confirmed the directive from the court was issued and the accused had been arrested.
