Illegal Firearms, Ammunition and Drugs Seized During Weekend Operations

According to a SAPS media statement, during various operations in the Western Cape over the weekend, they managed to seize three illegal firearms, ammunition and drugs.

On Friday, members of the local Crime Prevention Unit and Anti-Gang Unit members in Elsiesriver arrested a 22-year-old suspect after receiving information about a shooting incident in the area. The suspect was arrested for being in possession of an illegal firearm, magazine and seven rounds of ammunition.

In the early morning hours of Saturday morning, an 18-year-old suspect was arrested by Nyanga Police also for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

“At a roadblock on Saturday on the N7 outside Atlantis, a 45-year-old driver of a vehicle was stopped. On him, police found a hundred Mandrax tablets. He was charged for possession of drugs. At another roadblock in Piketberg, police arrested a suspect for possession of 500 Mandrax tablets. He was charged with possession and dealing in drugs,” the statement read.

On Sunday evening, a 33-year-old suspect was arrested by members of the Manenberg SAPS Crime Prevention Unit and Gugulethu Police at a garage in Manenberg, the units seized a pistol and a few rounds of ammunition.

“All arrested suspects are expected to appear in various courts soon.”
