Husband stabbed to death and wife tied up in Stilbaai home invasion

Just after midnight on Tuesday, three unknown suspects entered the home of 65-year-old Johan Ungerer and 61-year-old Christina. Johan was stabbed in the neck, while Christina was locked in her bedroom with her hands tied behind her back.

The couple was attacked while asleep in their bedroom, News24 reports.

Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Potjie said, “Preliminary information indicates that three unknown male suspects armed with a firearm and sharp objects [knife and screwdriver] gained entrance to the residence in Melkboom Street through a window, whose glass they had removed.”

After demanding money, the suspects fled the scene in Johan’s white Chevrolet LDV. Potjie told the publication that the suspects left with an undisclosed amount of money, valuables, two cellphones, a laptop and jewellery.

The car was then found by police near the N2 between Stilbaai and Riversdale.

Suspects have not yet been caught and should be considered armed and dangerous.
