In a statement released on Friday, the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) announced that a new national airline would be launched to replace South African Airways (SAA).

The department says the new airline will be restructured differently to SAA. They further said that a new bold approach needs to be taken for South Africa to maintain its airline capacity and important trade connections.

They believe that the new airline, through a good structure and competent management, can compete in the post-Covid19 world.

A business model is currently being worked on by unions and the Department to ensure that the new airline can be competitive in the same sectors SAA usually operates.
