In a statement, the national federation for golf, GolfRSA, has confirmed that they have received an official reprimand from the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture.
The letter by Director-General, Vusumuzi Mkhize, came after certain golf estates have reopened and contravened regulations that have been previously communicated. The letter outlined which regulations were not adhered to and that the contravention may result in fines or imprisonment.
“We, therefore, kindly request that you notify all golf estates to desist from resuming any golf activities until such time as the directions from the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture are gazetted and the details therein are complied with,” Mkhize wrote.
GolfRSA says that these contraventions have jeopardised the possibility of the whole golf industry reopening. The federation says that it does not condone the insubordination by golf estates and asked that members in the industry do not rely on information circulating on social media or via clubs.
GolfRSA asked members in the industry to comply with the Level 3 regulations and await an official statement from them announcing the resumption of golf activities.
