Global COVID-19 Cases Exceeds One Million Mark

According to Worldometers, the global number of positive COVID-19 cases have exceeded the one million mark. On Friday afternoon it reported 1 026 715 confirmed cases.

Currently, the world has 754 084 active cases, where 95% of them are mild conditions. From the remaining 272 631 cases an estimated 218 586 patients have recovered.

The United States of America has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world the US has 245 380 confirmed cases. A total of 10 411 of those have recovered.

China, on the other hand, has 81 620 cases and 76 571 patients recovered.

On Thursday evening, the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) announced that South Africa has 1462 active cases with an increase in recoveries. So far, 47 965 tests have been conducted.

Dr. Zweli Mkhize said in a media statement on Thursday, “We are slowly seeing an increase in the number of recoveries, however recovery numbers do tend to lag behind because of the criteria for recovery. Our focus right now is finding all the active cases and treating those that are very ill.”
