On Wednesday, the SAPS sent out a media statement stating that the Hawks’ Serious Crime Investigation unit is searching for Gerhard Niewoudt Olivier (34), for alleged fraud.
In 2010, Olivier allegedly ran a farm investment scheme where he conned potential investors to purchase farm equipment and feed in return for a fee. He allegedly disappeared with the money, instead of using it for the intended purpose.
The SAPS further wrote that he allegedly stole almost R18.4 million from these unsuspecting victims. Investigations showed that he allegedly deposited R600 000 into his personal account and withdrew it again on 1 April 2010.
In addition, he is also being accused of falsely presenting himself as a wealthy farm owner and making promises to members of a farming co-operation that he will provide them with farming resources. Apparently, he was granted a loan, but he never delivered on the promises.
“The Malmesbury Magistrate court has issued a warrant of arrest for Olivier’s arrest on the 06 of June 2019 after he failed to appear in court. It is believed that he is currently in Johannesburg,” the statement read.

If you have any information that could lead to his arrest, please contact the Investigating Officers, Colonel Schiltz on 082 471 6756 or Warrant Officer Wynand Olivier on 071 481 3326.
