Franco, 10, Shot in his Thigh Amid Gang Violence in Tafelsig

On Monday evening, ten-year-old Franco Visagie was playing with his friends when a shooting broke out in Tafelsig Mitchell’s Plain, Franco was hit in his leg by a stray bullet.

Franco’s mother, Sonia says, “He was visiting his aunty in Retreat for the past two weeks and came home a day ago because the gangsters were shooting there and we were so worried.”

“We just wanted him home safe and then he gets shot here”, she said.

Sonia says she took Franco into their wendy house and when she pulled down his pants she found that the bullet had gone through his thigh.

She says when police arrived on the scene, the boy had already been taken away by an ambulance.

“They said he would be OK and didn’t need surgery. They closed the wound and gave him crutches. He is very lucky.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana stated that Mitchell’s Plain police are investigating an attempted murder case.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation with no arrests yet.
