Five Suspects Arrested for Alleged Planned Murder of 51-Year-Old Woman

Five suspects have been arrested in the Eastern Cape in connection with the alleged planned kidnapping and murder of a 51-year-old woman in Qumbu.

The woman and her 22-year-old son were reportedly travelling from Mabaleni Locality Tina Falls to Qumbu, where they were stopped by two of the suspects who were allegedly asking for help.

One of the suspects aimed a firearm at the woman and demanded money. She was shot and dragged to the suspect’s car. Her son was assaulted and obtained upper-body injuries, however, he managed to flee from the scene.

The woman’s body was later found at the Tsitsa Bridge.

According to a SAPS statement, “The arrested suspects include two women who are sisters aged between 30 and 40, who were arrested at Zipunzana locality on Thursday, a 55-year-old man who was arrested Friday in New Bright in Mthatha. Police also found them in possession of a 9mm pistol with rounds of ammunition, a 52-year-old ex-husband to the deceased was also arrested at Zipunzana on Friday, whilst a 38-year-old man was arrested at Vulindlela Heights on Friday afternoon. Among the arrested is a police officer stationed in Mthatha,”.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Qumbu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 29 June on charges of murder, kidnapping, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
