According to a SAPS statement a 15-year-old girl from Delmas in Mpumalanga who was reported missing on Tuesday 25 February, has allegedly been murdered by her uncle.
Reports state that her lifeless body was found under her bed on Wednesday 26 February. Her 37-year-old uncle has appeared in the Delmas District Court on Monday, 02 March after being arrested in connection with the girl’s murder.
“After an extensive search was conducted, one of the family members realised that there was an unusual smell in the house but brushed it off as the house had not been cleaned in a while due to the mother being hospitalised. The girl’s mother started cleaning the house which led to the gruesome discovery of her daughter’s partly decomposed body under the bed”, said Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi.
“Strangely, the girl’s uncle who used to stay with them was nowhere to be found, apparently since the girl’s disappearance. A manhunt was conducted and the uncle was found at a particular squatter camp in Delmas and was taken in for questioning by police.”
The police have established that the uncle was also wanted for an incident in which he allegedly raped and stabbed a young girl in 2007.
The uncle has been charged for the murder of the 15-year-old girl and the case has been postponed to 09 March 2020, for a formal bail application.
