The Eastern Cape family members of a drug addicted Cape Town teenager have allegedly beaten the boy to death after he stole clothes from them.
Asanda Manono, 19, from Brown’s Farm, near Philippi, made news headlines earlier this year after his mother chained him to a wall in an attempt to stop him from stealing.
According to an IOL report, Manono was allegedly killed by members of his Eastern Cape family and the community after he stole and sold a relative’s clothes. His body was found in the veld on Monday night.
Asanda’s family in Cape Town told IOL he was taken to a container and beaten to death.
According to the report, Eastern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Sibongile Soci said: “The circumstances surrounding the murder of a 19-year-old man whose lifeless was found in an open veld at Mkaphusi Location, Lady Frere on Monday night, December 28, 2020, forms part of the investigation.
“It is alleged that police were summoned by the community members about the body of the deceased lying in an open veld. On arrival, police discovered the bruised body.”
Buyiswa Manono, the boy’s heartbroken mother, told IOL: “After all the efforts I have made to change my son’s life, to lose him this way is just terrible. It’s even painful to know that some members of the family were involved in his death.”
