Members of the Kimberley Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit have arrested a 60-year-old man on Friday in connection with the rape of his 7-year-old stepdaughter.

It is alleged that the victim has been abused since January 2020 until Thursday, 25 June when the abuse was uncovered.

Two other male suspects aged 29 and 30, who are the victim’s nephews, have also been arrested allegedly also for raping the victim since January.

The Doctor who performed a medical examination on the little girl discovered that she has been infected with sexually transmitted diseases. She is in a safe place, receiving the necessary assistance from the SAPS Northern Cape Forensic Social Workers.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lt Gen Risimati Peter Shivuri, has strongly condemned the abuse by people who were supposed to be her guardians.

Lt Gen Shivuri applauded members of the Kimberley Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for making sure that the suspects were arrested in order to face the full might of the law.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Kimberley Magistrates Court on Monday, 29 June 2020. Brigadier Nicky Mills, the Provincial Head of Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, strongly indicated that any attempt by the three heartless suspects to be released on bail will be vehemently opposed.
