Minister of Health, Dr. Zweli Mkhize, released a media statement confirming that SA currently has 903 coronavirus recoveries.
Mkhize says the latest number of confirmed cases are 2 605, with 48 deaths.
On Thursday, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, told the media that some of the measures put in place during the lockdown will remain once the lockdown is lifted.
Second Phase of Lockdown
Minister Dlamini-Zuma said that in the weeks ahead, relaxations may be seen. However, she gave no specifics beyond “schools might be opening” and “industries may have to come slowly on stream”, as part of an “orderly way of easing the lockdown. She further confirmed that South Africans can expect that almost every week new conditions will be announced.
This lockdown period will end on April 30. Government however said the economy will be “incrementally” opened up, meaning that some trades and services would remain prohibited for longer than others.
