Earlier this week the Western Cape leader of the Democratic Alliance, MEC Bonginkosi Madikezela, allegedly admitted that he did not complete the BCom degree indicated on his CV, saying that it was not a requirement to hold political office.
According to reports, after the allegations came to light, Cameron Dugmore of the ANC asked Premier Alan Winde to suspend the MEC while an investigation by the DA’s Federal Legal Commission is underway.
Dugmore said, “If it is true that a MEC has fraudulently submitted a CV, then this is a very serious matter and is a clear breach of the code of conduct governing all members of Parliament.”
According to reports, Madikizela responded to the accusations saying that he took full responsibility for not correcting the information on his CV.
Reports on Thursday confirmed that Madikizela has been suspended.
