The Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkize has released the latest COVID-19 statistics in a statement on Friday. Stats show that South Africa’s total number of recoveries is 410.
- The total number of tests conducted thus far: 73 028
- Total confirmed cases thus far: 2003
- Total deaths recorded: 24
- Total recoveries: 410
Provincial Breakdown
The provincial breakdown show Gauteng is still the epicentre of the disease in SA, the province has 801 infections. However, Kwazulu-Natal has the highest number of fatalities with a total of 12 deaths recorded.
- Gauteng: 801 infections, 3 deaths, 157 recoveries
- Western Cape: 541 infections, 6 deaths, 152 recoveries
- KwaZulu-Natal: 412 infections, 12 deaths, 15 recoveries
- Free-State: 94 infections, 3 deaths, 61 recoveries
- Eastern-Cape: 68 infections, no deaths, 3 recoveries
- Limpopo: 24 infections, no deaths, 13 recoveries
- Mpumalanga: 20 infections, no deaths, 6 recoveries
- North-West: 18 infections, no deaths, 3 recoveries
- Northern-Cape: 15 infections, no deaths, no recoveries
- Unallocated infections are at 10 with no deaths or recoveries

Minister Mkhize said in a tweet on Friday, “it is important to note, except for two cases, deceased are aged 63 and upwards. We are also seeing people with co-existing diseases succumb quicker.”
