COVID-19 TERS Fund Extended to August

The Covid-19 Temporary Employers/ Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) will be extended to August.

The fund is aimed at providing financial support to people who were out of work during the nationwide lockdown.

Employment and Labour Deputy Minister Boitumelo Booi made the announcement on Tuesday saying, “following due diligence and consultation with the UIF actuaries and in line with the President’s decision to extend the life of the Disaster Management Act until the 15th of August 2020, we have taken a decision to similarly extend the COVID-19 TERS benefit until the 15th of August 2020,”.  

The Minister added that the Unemployment Insurance Fund is improving their call centre to better their response to queries.

The benefit structure and existing criteria will apply to the extended funding and the Department has guaranteed applications from April and May will be closed off by the end of July.
