According to SAPS reports, a total of 25 people were killed and 72 injured in a bus accident in the Eastern Cape on Monday. A case of culpable homicide is under investigation by Centane SAPS.
The report says that on Monday, 02 March at around 07:40, an AB350 bus was reportedly travelling from Cebe Village, Centane when the driver lost control on the gravel road at Gwelane Locality, Zingcuka Village, the bus fell into an embankment.
All the injured passengers were reported to have been rushed to the nearby hospitals for medical attention. The ages and gender details of the deceased are still being checked by forensic officials. The driver of the bus is said to be amongst the deceased passengers.
SAPS reported the cause of the accident will form part of the investigation.
“This is one of the most devastating accidents and as the police family, we wish to express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased persons. Our hearts go out to the loved ones and close families and friends of the injured persons too”, said Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga.
