The boyfriend of 27-year-old Vuyokazi Mgolodela has, in a text to the family, admitted to killing her, IOL reports.
The text read: “I killed your sister and ran to Hout Bay. I will hand myself over to the police tomorrow, please forgive me.”
According to the Cape Times, Mgolodela’s cousin reported her missing last Monday. He returned home from the Eastern Cape and found that the house was locked. The family claimed that her last known location was her boyfriend’s house, who was also unreachable at the time.
Her older sister, Babalwa, told the Cape Times: “She called me on a Saturday and told me he was abusive and that she would break up with him after she gets a protection order.”
MSN claims that the body of an unidentified woman was found by passers-by, behind a local fishery business, on Tuesday last week. “Although there was no confirmation at the time that the body was Mgolodela’s, her family believed it was.” The body was burned beyond recognition and the family is awaiting DNA tests to determine whether it is the body of Vuyokazi.
Despite saying in his text that he fled to Hout Bay, the suspect was arrested in Ngqamakhwe village in the Eastern Cape and appeared in the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 14 January. According to IOL, Western Cape police spokesperson Siyabulela Malo said: “This office can confirm that a 38-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the case. He will be transported to the Western Cape to face murder charges.”
