Body of Woman Found With Multiple Stab Wounds in Eastern Cape

The body of a 38-year-old woman was found with multiple stab wounds at Mdeni location, Butterworth on Sunday, 20 June.

The gruesome discovery was made by the woman’s boyfriend who grew suspicious when her cellphone was continuously ringing but remained unanswered. He decided to visit and investigate. As he came closer to her house, he could hear her phone ringing inside. He opened the door and found the victim with her hands tied, she had been strangled and stabbed multiple times.

An off duty detective living in the area heard about the murder and managed to trace, apprehend and interview a male suspect who was also an ex-lover of the victim. 

The suspect is expected to appear at the Butterworth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 23 June to face a charge of murder.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga sent her condolences to the family and relatives of the victim on behalf of senior police management. She also applauded Butterworth detectives for the swift arrest of the suspect. 

Lt Gen Ntshinga said, “The community response during the search was commendable. All of us must work together and do our bit to eradicate the scourge of all forms of gender-based violence,”
