Staff members at the Belhar Fire Station were commended for the swift action they took to save the life of a two-week-old baby who was brought to their station.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said that the baby was brought to the station by family members on Friday, 9 October at around 15:27.
He said, “The little boy was unresponsive and not breathing. Our staff immediately provided medical assistance, started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and managed to get him breathing again,”.
The baby was then transported to Tygerberg Hospital via ambulance.
Smith commended the staff and said it’s heart-warming that communities are able to turn to emergency services when in need.
