On Tuesday New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, will join Australia’s cabinet meeting, one of the discussions on the agenda is the launch of a trans-Tasman travel bubble between the countries.

Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that once the ban on international travel is lifted, they want to start reconnecting with New Zealand first.

Ardern says that this travel bubble will not be implemented any time soon, as they need to ensure that all the gains from the lockdown are secure and that proper health measures are in place. According to their Prime Minister, New Zealand may want to allow for travel from the Pacific Islands first.

Both Australia and New Zealand have a 1% Covid-19 mortality rate and are now strategising ways to reopen the economy without initiating a second wave of infections.
