On Friday Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde confirmed that another nurse working at the Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town passed away because of Covid-19 implications.
“We are also deeply saddened to announce the death of a Tygerberg Hospital nurse, Ntombizakithi Ngidi. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and her colleagues at this time and we honour her service to the people of this province,” Winde said.
This is the second nurse in the Western Cape that has passed away from Covid-19 implications. Last week, Petronella “Nellie” Benjamin passed away a day before she was set to retire and was laid to rest on Tuesday.
Winde said they will honour the two nurses on Tuesday 12 May, which is also International Nurses’ Day.
At 13:00 on Friday, the Western Cape reported 4584 confirmed cases of which 2979 are active, 87 deaths and 1518 recoveries out of 53 476 tests conducted.
