The ANC’s top six have met to discuss the arrest warrant of Secretary-General, Ace Magashule.
Senior ANC sources confirmed to various news agencies that an emergency meeting was held on Tuesday night to discuss among other things the arrest warrant of Magashule.
A warrant of arrest was issued for Magashule on Tuesday for alleged involvement in an asbestos audit contract in the Free State.
Magashule is expected to appear in court on Friday.
News24 reports that ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa called the meeting of the ruling party’s top brass after news emerged that a warrant had been issued for Magashule earlier on Tuesday. Ramaphosa initially wanted to discuss Wednesday’s by-elections, but the Magashule matter was inevitably on the agenda.
Magashule has maintained his innocence. He has also since indicated that he will meet with his lawyers to prepare for Friday’s court appearance.
