Alleged teen hitman and dad caught with drugs in jail together

An alleged drug merchant has spent the weekend in jail along with his teenage son, who stands accused of murder, after a fatal shooting in Grassy Park.

A Daily Voice report details how the pair were arrested following a gang hit involving the 17-year-old suspect and an 18-year-old rival gang member, who was shot dead in Duiker Avenue, Grassy Park at around 7am on Tuesday last week.

According to the report, when Grassy Park police raided the suspect’s home on New Year’s Eve they found more than they bargained for.

Grassy Park police station commander, Colonel Dawood Laing, told Daily Voice the teenager was found, but as officers searched the house for a murder weapon, they came across his 40-year-old father with a bread packet full of marijuana.

“The 40-year-old suspect, who is a suspected drug merchant, was found with a bread bag filled with dagga and a further search found him to be in possession of more than R3000 in cash and along with his son, they were arrested and welcomed the new year while sitting in holding cells,” Laing said.

The teenager appeared alongside his father at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court yesterday and was charged with murder. The matter has been postponed to 7 January for further investigation.
