On Monday morning Emergency Health Services (EMS) responded to a motor vehicle accident involving 21 people on the N7 in Cape Town at the Melkbos turnoff.
EMS members arrived on the scene at 07:38 am, they found a light motor vehicle in the middle of the road and a taxi lying on its side.
Five men and three women in the taxi sustained fatal injuries and were transported to the Paarl Forensic Pathology Facility. The other thirteen patients, with varying injuries, were taken to the Tygerberg, Wesfleur, Somerset and Groote Schuur Hospitals respectively.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
