Wednesday saw the arrest of 4 men and 1 woman in connection with a robbery that took place at a post office in Dunoon.
The suspects were apprehended near the Jip de Jager offramp towards Bellville on the N1 after the Flying Squad and K9 Unit responded to a broadcast of the robbery and searched for the getaway vehicle.
“Three unlicensed firearms, ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash were confiscated”, said police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut.
The 5 suspects are to appear in court in Bellville this Friday.
News24 reports that suspects also robbed a post office in Pacaltsdorp, George earlier this week after a security company delivered money reserved for Allpay allowances that had to be paid out to its beneficiaries.
According to Captain Malcolm Pojie, the assailant entered the site and held the security guard at gunpoint after the money had been handed over to the post office. “He disarmed the two security officers, one working as a guard at the post office and the other one who delivered the cash. He then took the undisclosed amount of cash in bags and took off with it and the guard’s firearms on foot.”
After getting away, the suspect and an accomplice hijacked a Toyota Corolla near a clinic’s parking lot. They then drove to their getaway vehicle, a Toyota Jazz. Once inside their vehicle, the suspects crashed into an Opel, leading them to open fire on the car, just missing the driver.
