A 46-year-old father from Shallcross, Durban was stabbed to death after his house was broken into after 21:00 on Sunday night, IOL news.
The Shallcross community are still in deep despair after a resident, identified as Vinesh Parmeshwar, a 46-year-old man, was stabbed multiple times after robbers forcefully entered his home.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, three men broke into a house on Himalaya Drive and held the occupants at knifepoint after 21:00.
Parmeshwar’s son and daughter-in-law who were present at the time were unarmed, however as the robbery ensued, Parmeshwar was stabbed multiple times on his body. He was then rushed to hospital where he died on arrival.
Mahendra Lillkan a spokesperson for Shallcross Crime Forum describes the incident as a robbery gone wrong. Lillkan stated that the men broke the lock on the gate and door and entered the house forcefully.
Lillkan stated: “Vinesh was upstairs when he heard the noises. Only the three family members were in the house. We are still being briefed as to what transpired during the robbery and what led the men to stab Vinesh. He might have put up a fight. His son was too traumatised to speak.”
According to the Daily Voice, Parmeshwar was part of the neighbourhood watch in the sector, however Lillkan noted that the family were unsure of what was taken during the robbery.
Lillkan further told the publication that: “It is extremely sad to hear that a neighbourhood watch member has lost his life. We plead with residents to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times. They should ensure that the gates and doors are locked, even when you are at home.
“We also advise residents to keep the telephone numbers of their neighbours, the SAPS, their security company and the local CPF on hand so that they can be contacted in an emergency.”
A case for murder and robbery is being investigated by Chatsworth Police.
