33-year-old North West man sentenced to life imprisonment after kidnapping, raping and hanging former girlfriend

Mpho Mkhibane Nkwe, a 33-year-old from the North West province has been sentenced to life in jail after the kidnapping, raping and hanging of his ex-girlfriend in 2018.

According to News24, police spokesperson Captain Aafje Botma said that the Madikwe Regional Court was told that the accused assaulted his former girlfriend on numerous occasions between 2017 and 2018. Even though a protection order was obtained against Nkwe, the abuse still continued.

Botma continued to say, “He ultimately kidnapped her and took her to a mountain where he hanged her and raped her. She sustained injuries on her face, neck and head, caused by a knife and broken bottle, and a bruised leg. He was arrested in May 2018.”

Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, the North West police commissioner, welcomed the sentence.
