On Tuesday the South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested a 15-year-old following an investigation into the murder of 4-year-old Minenhle Mhlongo. The suspect is believed to be related to the victim.
Minenhle was allegedly left in the care of a family member after her mother left to work on 23 September. Upon the mother’s return, she was informed that Minenhle had gone missing.
The little girl’s body was found in bushes near her home in KwaMashu the following day at 06:00 with visible stab wounds and head injuries.
The SAPS arrested the suspect, believed to be Minenhle’s cousin, and confiscated a weapon believed to be used to inflict harm on Minenhle. The suspect is expected to appear before the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 1 October.
