San Julian

It goes without saying; if you’re looking for the best Chinese, Italian or Indian cuisine, then try to find a restaurant where the chef is an actual native of that particular country. This is what makes San Julian in Cape Town stand out from any other Mexican taqueria; it’s actually run by Mexicans. The Garcia family arrived in South Africa a few years ago, and what they brought with them is authentic Mexican bliss.

San Julian is located between Waterkant and Strand streets in GreenPoint. As if purposefully hidden to add to it’s surprise factor; it’s location also contributes to the intimate feel of the place. The bright colours and cultural emblems make you feel like you’ve really just walked into a South American dream. The brightness is not just limited to the decor, but it’s also found in the varied choice and flavours from the menu.

If it’s your first Mexican experience, we are sure that you will by the end of your dining, be googling the words tortilla, taco, enchilada or guacamole. Yes, these are expected to be found on any Mexican restaurant menu, however what you will not expect, is the distinctive richness in flavour you are bound to encounter at San Julian. The recipes have been in the Garcia family for generations, and it is clear from the great service and atmosphere, that true hospitality is a part of their family culture too.
