On Thursday the European Medical Agency (EMA) announced the possibility that a vaccine for COVID-19 could be ready for use within a year’s time.
Head of vaccines at the EMA, Mario Cavaleri, said that they were working along with 33 other developers to ensure that the vaccine can be ready as early as possible, provided it goes through the necessary trials.
Cavaleri further said that they will not be skipping the third phase of trials as they want to ensure that the vaccine is effective and safe to use.
Globally, there is currently more than 100 vaccines being developed.
The EMA is also looking at 115 different treatments for the coronavirus.
