South African Breweries (SAB) announced that the government has granted it permission to move some of its inventory from manufacturing plants to depots.
The announcement came after it was reported that approximately 400 million bottles of beer would need to be dumped as they previously could not be stored at depots and the transporting of alcohol during lockdown had not been allowed.
SAB said they will be transporting the inventory over the next few weeks and that this decision will avoid losses of R500 million in excise tax.
