According to MyBroadband Insights, MTN is the best network in South Africa. Followed by Vodacom, Rain, Telkom and Cell C.

MTN is the overall winner in all the cities in South Africa, including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Tshwane and Durban.

MTN has the highest average download speed of 40.64 Mbps and the highest overall network quality score.

The table below gives an overview of the rankings of mobile networks in South Africa.

The Network Quality Score shows the relative performance of networks, with 10 as the maximum score. The score is calculated by using 60% download speed, 20% upload speed and 20% latency. Unnatural results are taken out and cell down sampling is used to ensure that the results are accurate.

MyBroadband Insights has released its Q4 2019 Mobile Network Quality Report. The report is based on 310 649 speed tests that were done by 11 949 MyBroadband Android Speed Test App users across South Africa from 1 October to 31 December 2019.
