Today the Clicks Group Limited announced the closure of Musica, one of their heritage brands, on 31 May 2021.

The Clicks Group Limited consists of Clicks, GNC, The Body Shop, Claire’s and Musica with over 880 stores across southern Africa. In a statement, the group said the board of directors have decided to close the entertainment brand Musica on 31 May 2021.

A total of 19 Musica stores have closed since the start of the 2021 financial year. There are currently 59 outlets remaining. The 59 remaining stores will close when their leases expire over the next four months. Leases will then be terminated.

The Clicks Group procured the Musica brand in 1992. The brand has since then been SA’s leading music and entertainment brand.

Due to the global shift in the way music, movies and games are consumed, Musica was operating in a declining market for several years. The Clicks Group said that the end of the brand was inevitable but accelerated by the Coivd-19 pandemic.

The Pandemic sped up the demise due to the decline in foot traffic in malls where the Musica stores are traditionally housed.

Staff from Musica stores, which have been closed since September 2020, were reallocated to the group’s expanding health and beauty store network. Where operationally possible, management is committed to accommodating the remaining staff within the group.

The group will provide shareholders with further information on the financial and operational impacts on the closure of the Musica stores in April 2021.
